Without ever being taught there is no way anyone would know the transformation of life and the earth environment over the last 600 Million years. Back only a few million years life would have seemed like alien life, very few animals would have been recognizable. We have been learning about evolution and how it has acted on modern day creatures, but it is important to see how it brought together all these creatures.
Objectives
Students will find how evolution has effected life over time and be able to trace the ancestry of certain specie through the use of a informative website.
"Today we will be learning about evolution of organisms from 625 million years ago till today. But first lets hear few examples from each of the words we learned yesterday that you were supposed to do for homework. Some of these examples may get used on the test coming up soon so you may want to listen up and participate. The homework will be collected.
Where did life start on earth? --> Where were we --> What are your theories?
(5 minutes)
Engagement
Students in groups of 3 will go to the computers and read the information about the different periods of the earth. They will receive a sheet when they are ready and on the correct website which should take them no more than 2-3 minutes. The directions they will have on their papers and that I will say will be as follows. "Now that everyone is on the website I want everyone to read and answer the questions on the papers you were given. After reading about one period click on the next, be sure to check out the pictures of the creatures that lived as well. Make sure you know what your clicking on next, the order of the periods is on your paper. Begin" (25-35 min)
Closing
"What are some interesting things you found out about the history of life?" (4-5 minutes of responses)
"For homework I want to do something fun. Each of you will draw, design, or describe in good detail what you would picture a Human to look like if we evolved from dinosaurs instead of mammals. Be creative and be ready to share it, this is an easy homework grade."
Assessment
The collected homework will show me if the students understood yesterdays work, and seeing the work they do during class will show me that the students were engaged in the lesson.
Homework
Draw, design, or describe in good detail what you would picture a Human to look like if we evolved from dinosaurs instead of mammals.
